If you had cryptocurrency seized in the BTC-e case, an important deadline is coming up. The U.S. Government published official notice of civil forfeiture related to BTC-e and Alexander Vinnik on July 4, 2025. Anyone who had Bitcoin or other crypto on the exchange at the time of the seizure in 2017 and believes they are entitled to its return may need to file a judicial claim in federal court within 60 days of this notice. In addition to the published notice, individual Claimants have begun receiving notices via email. The personal notices set a stricter 30- or 35-day deadline for those who acknowledge receipt of the personal notice. The civil asset forfeiture case is pending in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. The case number is: 1:25-CV-02085.
